Lisa uses landscape as a means to explore colour and light, in particular the juxtaposition of colours and how they affect each other. Leaning towards abstraction, but holding on to the figurative elements, striving to create powerful images that reflect the temporal and fleeting nature of experience in that place. Focusing on the creative artistic process, Ballard uses painterly brush marks that encourage an organic response to every colour and layer she applies. She also incorporates washes, flat spray paint and scratches to allow the painting to evolve.

Along with finding inspiration in the landscape that surrounds her at home in Ireland, Ballard has found travelling to be invaluable in her personal exploration into painting as a medium, supplying new ideas, always changing and challenging. Most recently the raw Icelandic landscape has drawn her in.
